Dolce & Gabbana – The One Sport: Overview, Smell, Notes & More!

The One Sport by Dolce & Gabbana is the brandʼs third fragrance from The One masculine line.

Comparatively lighter and fresher than its predecessors, The One Sport is classified as a woody, aromatic fragrance for men.

As you can tell by its name, it is marketed to active sportspeople who enjoy the freedom and thrills of outdoor activities.

Launched in 2012 to great fanfare, Stefano Gabanna, the nose behind the sport fragrance, formulated the composition of the sport cologne with his gym friends in mind.

He wanted to create a unique scent that would further bolster the morale of those who enjoy working out and feeling good about themselves.

What Does The One Sport Smell Like?

So, the million-dollar question arises—what does this designer fragrance smell like? Well, The One Sport opens with fresh, bright, and invigorating notes, overwhelming your senses with a massive blast of water aromas and rosemary.

The aquatic notes tend to stay in the background throughout the lifespan of the fragrance.

Then, as it opens up to its mid-phase, it gives you a hint of woody aroma because of the sequoia.

During this time, youʼll also detect and absolutely love the fresh, clean, and warm spicy cardamom notes.

Finally, before leaving your skin, the fragrance introduces you to a world of aromatic scented tones such as musk and patchouli.

The base notes add a slight dirty, earthy vibe to the clean scent, giving the fragrance an extra layer.

Thankfully, all the notes blend in well to offer an aquatic scent capable of stimulating sensual feelings.

How Long Does The One Sport Last For?

Regrettably, the lasting power of this scent isnʼt exactly its strongest suit.

Most hate its poor longevity.

If youʼre lucky, the sporty fragrance will last for five hours.

If you want the fragrance to last longer, consider applying it to your clothes too.

This sporty Dolce scent, as advertised, is best suited for active people.

If you want to extract more performance out of this fragrance, youʼll have to sweat to activate the sillage and projection.

Otherwise, the fragrance will sit close to your skin and disappear into thin air in a matter of hours.

When Should You Wear It?

I think this cologne works best as a summertime perfume.

It is perfectly suited for a day at the beach or by the river.

This inoffensive scent can also be worn to the office.

Presentation and Value For Money

I canʼt really fault the design of the perfumeʼs bottle as it suits my taste to a The One Sport, much like its predecessors, has a simple design with transparent tones and details in red.

Like the original fragrances, The One for Men from 2008 and The One Gentleman from 2010, The One Sport also looks elegant and luxurious.

So, bearing in mind the quality of the feel-good essence, presentation, and cost, I would say that The One Sport offers good value for money.

However, keep in mind that it’s not your best option if you rate perfumes solely on their life span (longevity).

The Bottom Line

All in all, The One Sport is a decent fruity-aquatic fragrance that does its best to deliver on its promises.

Not only does it offer freshness, but it also evokes happy emotions.

However, make no mistake—this perfume doesnʼt compare to other sporty flankers such as Chanelʼs Allure and Dior Homme.

Perfumes that Smell Like The One Sport

The nice, light, clean, fresh opening of The One Sport has many similarities with the opening aromas of the Platinum Egoiste.

During my experiment with The One Sport, I was also reminded of Bvlgari Aqva Marine as both the fragrances open with a non-citrus fresh fragrance and a salty note.

I also tend to agree with many who believe that The Sport passes off as the lighter version of Lacoste Essential.
